April 1, 2010: Aurel Braun, Board Chair, Jacques Gauthier, David Matas and Brad Farquhar, members of Rights & Democracy's board, appear before the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs.
March 30, 2010: Mika Lévesque and Maxime Longangué, representing Rights & Democracy's employees union, as well as Marie-France Cloutier, Razmik Panossian and Charles Vallerand appear before the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs.
March 29, 2010: Gerard Latulippe begins his mandate as President of Rights & Democracy.
March 24, 2010: The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs invites the Employee Union of Rights & Democracy as well as the three former directors recently dismissed to appear on Tuesday March 30, 2010.
March 22 2010: Again, Aurel Braun, Chair of Rights & Democracy's Board of Directors, cancels his confirmed appearance at the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs on March 23.
March 18, 2010: The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade starts hearings to investigate events at Rights and Democracy. Aurel Braun, Board Chair and Jacques Gauthier, Interim President, decline invitation to testify before the Standing Committee.
March 11, 2010: Quebec's National Assembly adopts a unanimous motion supporting Rights & Democracy and it's employees.
March 3, 2010: Parliament reopens and opposition MPs request a parliamentary probe into the events at Rights & Democracy.
March 2, 2010: The three suspended managers, Marie-France Cloutier, Razmik Panossian and Charles Vallerand are informed that they are officially fired. The managers' lawyer announces that they are preparing a legal action.
March 2, 2010: Minister of Foreign Affairs confirms the nomination of Gerard Latulippe as the next president of Rights and Democracy.
End of February 2010: Four members of management are suspended without pay for one day following a memo they had sent to the auditing firm asking for their detailed mandate.
February 25, 2010: Three opposition parties officially against the nomination of Gerard Latulippe.
February 22, 2010: The Foreign Affairs Minister:
- announces the choice of Gerard Latulippe as candidate for the next President of Rights & Democracy. The opposition will be consulted on this choice;
- publicly supports the board's decision to mandate Samson, Bélair/Deloitte, Touche to proceed with a forensic audit;
- confirms his supports for the members of the board.
February 19, 2010: The Acting President announces via press release the hiring of the firm Samson Bélair / Deloitte & Touche to conduct a forensic audit of financial transactions between 2005 and 2009 and the firm Prima Communications.
February 15, 2010: The Board of Directors votes to close Rights & Democracy's European Office in Geneva and appoints Board member Marco Navarro-Genie as Director General of Rights & Democracy.
January 29, 2010: The Acting President suspends three directors of Rights & Democracy: Marie-France Cloutier, Razmik Panossian and Charles Vallerand. He also hires a private investigation firm, Sirco Solutions.
January 23, 2010: Funeral of Mr. Beauregard in Ottawa.
January 22, 2010: The Board meets and appoints Jacques Gauthier as Acting President of Rights & Democracy.
January 11, 2010: 46 employees of Rights & Democracy sign a letter requesting the resignation of three members of the Board of Directors responsible for Mr. Beauregard's evaluation: Jacques Gauthier, Aurel Braun and Elliot Tepper.
January 8, 2010: Rémy Beauregard dies in his sleep. The Board of Directors meeting is suspended.
January 7, 2010: Meeting of the Board of Directors in Toronto during which the Executive Committee decision to renew the mandate of Mr. Riveros Franck is overruled by a vote of 7 against 5. To protest against this decision, Mr. Payam Akhavan and Dr. Sima Samar resign. The board members vote to repudiate the three grants to B'Tselem, Al Haq and Al Mezan.
January 6, 2010: Mr. Beauregard meets with the committee on his assessment and learns that it remains unchanged but for a few minor details.
November 13, 2009: Appointment of David Matas and Michael Van Pelt to the Board of directors.
November 3, 2009: Mr. Beauregard writes to Lawrence Cannon, Canada's Minister of Foreign Affairs, to inform him of the existence of serious problems on the Board of directors, including the fact that it is paralyzed and that his personal assessment has not yet been revised.
October 30, 2009: Meeting of the Executive Committee of the Board of directors during which the mandates of Mrs. Simar of Afghanistan and Mr. Riveros Franck of Bolivia are renewed for three years.
October 29, 2009: Rights & Democracy appears before the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development concerning its annual report for 2008-2009. Mr. Braun had indicated in writing that he would not attend and that what the representatives of Rights & Democracy had to say was false.
October 19, 2009: Aurel Braun cancels the meeting of the Board scheduled for October 22nd and October 23rd without the approval of a majority of members.
September 4, 2009: Ms. Donica Pottie resigns from the Board by request of the Department of Foreign Affairs.
June 18 - 19, 2009: Meeting of the Board during which President Rémy Beauregard responds to his evaluation report, a copy of which he obtained through the Privacy and Personal information Act. The majority of the Board of Directors who require that it be revised rejects the evaluation of the President.
May 2009: Three members of the Board of Directors (Mr¬. Gauthier, Mr. Tepper and Mr. Braun) lead a secret assessment of Mr. Beauregard's performance. They send their evaluation to the Office of the Prime Minister without Mr. Beauregard's knowledge.
April 23, 2009: Appointment to the Board of Marco Navarro-Genie and Bradley Farquhar.
April 22, 2009: The five-year assessment of Rights and Democracy for 2003-2008 is tabled in Parliament. This assessment by the Office of the Inspector General of the Department of Foreign Affairs confirms the effectiveness of Rights & Democracy's strategic directions and actions during this period.
March 26 - 27, 2009: Board of Directors' first meeting chaired by Aurel Braun. The meeting results in a compromise to provide no further funding to Al Haq, Al Mezan and BT'selem after strong opposition to the grants is voiced by Mr. Braun and Mr. Gauthier. Objections by Mr. Braun and Mr. Gauthier also result in a unanimous decision by the Board to boycott the Durban Review Conference in Geneva.
March 10, 2009: Appointment of Aurel Braun as Chairman of the Board of Directors.
February 2009: Rights & Democracy provides grants of CA $ 10,000 each to BT'selem, Al Haq and Al Mezan, organizations dedicated to defending human rights in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.
January 2009: Appointment to the Board of Directors of Ms. Donica Pottie, representative of Canada's Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade.
July 2008: Nomination of the fifth President of Rights & Democracy, Rémy Beauregard.
February 2008: Appointment of Jacques Gauthier, Jean Guilbeault, Payam Akhavan and Elliot Tepper to the Board of Directors.
